Abstract
Use of ionic MALDI matrices — salts formed between a classical matrix acid and an organic base — to study peptide and protein expression directly in a tissue section and to build the expression map of a given protein.
Ionic matrices crystallise more homogeneously and are more stable under vacuum than classical crystalline matrices, which improves reproducibility over long imaging acquisitions.

Context
The starting point of the laboratory’s matrix line; the liquid ionic matrices (WO 2011/073740) and DALDI (EP 2 325 649) follow from it. It shares its priority date with the Tag-Mass conjugate filing (EP 2 325 631) but belongs to a different family: two distinct inventions filed the same day.
Abstract as published
The invention concerns improved methods for studying peptides/proteins expression in a tissue section or for determining at least one compound, in particular a protein, expression map in a tissue section, using ionic MALDI matrices.
