Associate Professor
Dr. Jacopo Vizioli is Associate Professor at the University of Lille, where he has held a permanent position since September 2001 within the PRISM Laboratory (Inserm Unit 1192). In 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor (Maître de Conférences Hors Classe) through the local quota.
Graduated in Natural Sciences (1987) and in Biology (1993), in 1997 Jacopo Vizioli got a PhD in microbiology and epidemiology at the University La Sapienza (Rome, Italy). He was research member (1997-1999 post-doctoral fellowship; 1999-2001 CNRS contract) at the Institut de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IBMC) of Strasbourg, France (director Prof. Jules Hoffmann). where he worked on the characterization of antimicrobial peptides in mosquitoes. At PRISM, he focused his studies on leech microglia and their role on neuroinflammation and repair mechanisms. He also investigated on the proteomic characterization of microglia-released Extracellular Vesicles. His research activity is at present mainly focused on the cellular immune response in aquatic invertebrates and he is currently involved in new projects aimed to characterize mussel and urchin immune cell populations by Raman spectroscopy.
Dr. Jacopo Vizioli has authored 36 publications, 1 book chapter, 36 proceedings, 41 communications and 22 posters in national and international congresses and meetings. He is referee for some international Journals and has scientific collaborations with several Italian and French research groups. He participates as invited speaker at national and international conferences and conventions giving scientific and science dissemination presentations.
At the University of Lille, Dr. Vizioli has been Head of the Biology Department of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology from 2016 to 2025 and member of the administration board of the university from 2018 to 2021.
In the period 2017-2022 he participated to the COST Action MARISTEM “Stem cells of marine/aquatic invertebrates: from basic research to innovative applications. On March 2022 he organized a meeting in Lille for this COST Action. Since 2022 he has been council member of the Italian Society of Developmental and Comparative Immunobiology (SIICS) (https://sites.units.it/siics/index.html) and since 2024 he has been board member of the “Group Ornithologique Naturaliste” (GON) of Lille (France), a scientific association for bird and wildlife protection.
Dr. Jacopo Vizioli is teacher in Animal Biology (bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Life Sciences) at the University of Lille. Since 2007 he has been producing eLearning tools for Animal Biology teaching: design and construction of didactical movies, multimedia textbooks and self-assessment resources on animal anatomy (http://pod.univ-lille1.fr/biologie-animale/video/2973-supports-multimedias-pour-les-travaux-pratiques-de-biologie-animale/. For these multimedia productions he got UNISCIEL (Université des Sciences en Ligne) funding (70 k€).
In 2023 Dr. Vizioli was designed to the honor of “Chevalier des Palmes Académiques” from French government for academic merit.
