Abstract
Dye-assisted laser desorption/ionisation. A dye, rather than a conventional organic matrix, is deposited on the tissue section and absorbs the laser energy, promoting the desorption and ionisation of the analytes.
The approach targets in particular the detection and localisation of lipids on biological tissue sections, in the low mass range where classical MALDI matrices generate interfering ions.

Context
A third answer to the problem addressed by the ionic matrices and the liquid ionic matrices — suppressing matrix-derived ions in the mass range where lipids are detected. Here the matrix is replaced altogether by a chromophore.
Abstract as published
The present invention is related to dye assisted laser desorption ionisation mass spectrometry imaging (DALDI). This technology is particularly suitable for the detection and localisation of analytes such as lipids on biological tissue sections.
